Various suppliers ported mouth pelhams
How the pelham works. When using two reins the snaffle rein will act like a normal snaffle putting pressure on the lips, bars, tongue and corners of the mouth. The port will add pressure to the roof of the horses mouth aw well. Longer cheeks will have more leverage and therefore will be stronger. Also the thickness of the mouthpiece will change the severity of the bit. The rubber mouth bit is made from a tough and durable rubber. A bit whatever the particular design, should be wide enough to allow about 13mm (1/2 inch) on either side of the horses mouth. Bits that are too narrow will pinch, but also bits that are too wide will tend to slide across the horses mouth.
