The eggbutt snaffle has a fixed rings this ensures there is no pinching of the lips but does not give as much play as the loose ring snaffle. The single joined eggbutt has a nutcracker effect over the lower jaw. The flexi bit is made from a polyurethane material, which is light, and flexible. The sweet iron is a unique metal designed to encourage salivation and acceptance of the bit. As the metal oxidises it produces a sweet taste. The rubber mouth bit is made from a tough and durable rubber. The cyprium bits encourage the horse to salivate, therefore the horse becomes more responsive in the mouth. The jp (john patterson) bits are crafted with curved mouth bars that reduce the nutcracker action of a regular snaffle, they stop the bit from hitting the roof of the horses mouth. The curved mouth also allows room for the horses tongue and eliminates interference that a conventional bit causes. The pinchless bit is unique in that the mouth piece moves independently from the outside rings. The mouthpiece moves smoothly and freely, allowing pressure from the rein to occur only on the side of the mouth that is required. The western eggbutt has bigger rings than a normal eggbutt with a narrow mouthpiece so is stronger than a normal eggbutt. The magness has rollers through the centre of the mouthpiece so the horse cant hold on to it so will give you more control than a normal mouthpiece. The copper roller move on the mouthpiece so the horse cant hold onto it, also as it is copper with will encourage the horse to soften. A snaffle bit whatever the particular design, should be wide enough to allow about 13mm (1/2 inch) on either side of the horses mouth. Bits that are too narrow will pinch, but also bits that are too wide will tend to slide across the horses mouth.
