Set of handcarved canopic jars
These canopic jars are individually hand-carved in luxor and have removeable lids for storing rings or pills and other small trinkets. They make very original and attractive gifts.Following the mummification process the jars held the embalmed remains of the vital organs necessary to enjoy the afterlife. (The heart was considered the seat of all wisdom and knowledge so was left in the corpse.) Each canopic jar represents a son of horus. Each one is responsible for protecting an organ: imsety (human: liver); duamutef (jackal: stomach); qebehsenuef (falcon: intestines); hapy (baboon: lungs).Approx height: 10cm
