Ancient origin: Named after the city of Bergamo in Italy, where the oil was first traded. The Italians have used Bergamot in their folk remedies for generations primarily for treating fever and worms. Since recent research in Italy it has been discovered to have many more properties. The Bergamot tree is of the citrus variety and it's closest relative is the orange tree. The oil is expressed from the fresh peel of the fruit which is smaller than an orange and ripens to yellow. Source: Although Bergamot is native to tropical Asia it is now cultivated in southern Italy and more recently in the Ivory Coast. Skin Care: The antiseptic properties of Bergamot combined with its delicate fragrance make it a lovely oil for treating skin conditions such as acne, oily skin and infected skin conditions. A hot compress of Bergamot can be applied to boils to draw out the infection. Bergamot also inhibits viruses in particular the Herpes simplex 1 virus which causes cold sores. It can help to ease the pain of shingles and the symptoms of chickenpox. Respiratory and Digestive system: Although it can help with respiratory and digestive problems its greatest strengths lie in the other areas mentioned. Genito-Urinary System: Bergamot has a strong affinity with the urino-genital tract and when mixed with Chamomile, Sandalwood and Tea-Tree makes a fantastic oil in treating cystitis and urethritis. It can be added to the bath or used as a local wash diluted to 1%. As many people with recurring cystitis are also tense, anxious or depressed which then leads to a worse condition then Bergamot can help to break the chain reaction by relieving the emotional feelings as well as treating the physical symptoms. Nervous System: The actions of this oil on the mental and psychological plane are some of the most valuable. It is a powerfully uplifting oil and works wonderfully for people who are tense, anxious or depressed. Digestive System: It can help with flatulence and loss of appetite. Because of its uplifting qualities it can help with cases where the eating problems are connected with depression. It needs to be stressed that it will not work as an overnight cure but will take time and only help if there is a desire by the person to be helped. Mixing Oils: It blends well with Lavender, Neroli, Jasmine, Cypress, Geranium, Lemon, Chamomile, and Juniper. Dimensions: 10ml
