selling by auction:
company believe that friendly, efficient personal service is of the utmost importance, so, when you have contacted our saleroom by letter, telephone or by calling in to see us, we can establish whether your items are saleable and arrange to see them, either by visiting your home or, if you prefer, you may bring them into the saleroom. We can discuss an expected price for the items, decide whether or not you wish to fix a reserve price - a price below which the auctioneer will not sell - then if you wish to enter them they will be placed in our next available auction. We can arrange transport and complete house clearance if needed.
the cost to you:
the cost to you will be as follows: commission of 12.5% for individual lots making up to £500 and reducing to 10% thereafter. Of course this is subject to v.a.t. Modest reductions are made for large estates and high value items. Items sent to our saleroom are covered by our insurance company while in our possession, consequently we have to make a small charge of 1% of the total sale price. Where individual items are considered to be of importance we would suggest that a photograph is
included in our catalogues and advertisements. For which a charge is made.
payment:
we pride ourselves on our prompt service. Prior to each sale the vendors are sent a list of the goods for sale to enable them to check that the goods have been correctly entered. Within ten days of each sale the vendors are sent an account showing the amount showing the amount realised and a cheque for the balance. This procedure applies whether you are selling a single item or the entire contents of a house.
buying at auction:
an auction is a market place where you can attend to buy and also enjoy the ambience created by the busy activity generated by those attending the venue. The bidding procedure ensures that items entered for sale achieve the highest price - a good result for the seller. Many people attend our auctions, both private and professional, including collectors after one particular item or those wishing t furnish their homes, purchasing for christmas, birthday, wedding, childrens present or anniversary, or even, for those intending to get married, a chance to buy an engagement ring. There is a vast selection to inspect on the two viewing days before the sale - tuesday opening till 7.00 p.m.
how do i bid?
company friendly and efficient staff will be happy to discuss details with you and anyone who has not purchased at auction will be put at ease
after the process of an auction has been explained. Remember, every bidder at an auction was once a novice
commission bids:
we will be happy to take written commission bids on bidding slips from anyone who is unable to attend the auction. These are available in the office or, in the case of more expensive items, we can arrange to accept telephone bids subject to written confirmation. All business transacted is treated as confidential.
refreshment:
there is a canteen serving home-made snacks to add to your enjoyment.
transport:
we are able to arrange the collection and delivery of single items to complete house clearances if required. There is a charge for this service.
safeguard your antiques:
research reveals that most personal possessions, especially antique furniture, pictures, silver and ceramics, are seriously under-insured. We suggest you might like to consider the value of your possessions and, if so, contact us for advice. The valuer will visit you at your home and, having made a preliminary inspection, advise you to:
(a) do nothing because you are already adequately covered.
(b) consider having an inventory and valuation produced for your antique & valuable collection only.
(c) consider having an inventory and valuation produced for the entire contents of your house including all household items.
the valuer will discuss with you the basis of the valuation (usually full retail replacement value) and the cost of valuation which is usually 1% of the gross sum insured or at an hourly rate to suit your needs.
up to this stage you have incurred no cost because preliminary advice is free of charge and a day mutually convenient to you and company is agreed upon for a valuation to be completed so as to cause the minimum disruption to home life. The client will receive three copies of the inventory together with a signed certificate from us. Company insurance valuation service is entirely confidential and all company employees are thoroughly vetted for their suitability in the handling and safe keeping of such confidential printed material.
