Placing bids online
How it works You are able to search or browse the Auction catalogue and place a bid on an item of your choice. At the auction this bid will be placed on your behalf and you will be contacted with the results shortly after the close of the auction. Your bid will be executed as cheaply as is permitted by the other bids or reserves. Auctions comprise of: Antique and Reproduction Furniture Antique Porcelain Glassware Oil paintings, Watercolors and Prints Silver and Plated items Jewellery Carpets and Rugs Books Miscellanea Copper and Brass items Clocks, Watches and Barometers Collectors Items Objects D Art When you attend a viewing session the Auctioneer is always present and is happy to give his opinion on any lot and indicate the price he expects the antiques to achieve. Attending the Auction If you are attending the auction you will need to check what time the antiques you are interested in are likely to be sold at. Generally the Auctioneer sells between 140 and 160 lots an hour. The Auction is divided into various categories and the time each category starts is set out in the front of the catalogue. The Auctioneer will not start auctioning any category before the time shown. You should aim to arrive at the Auction Room at least half an hour before the time the lot you are interested in is due to be sold. This will enable you to register with us as a Buyer and collect your bidding number card. You will also be able to get a feel for what is happening. The Auctioneer usually takes bids from two or three people at a time on any lot. If you wish to bid you should raise your hand to ensure that your bid is noticed by the Auctioneer. The Auctioneer will then be able to look to you for further bids until you decide that you wish to stop bidding (when you need simply shake your head) or are successful in purchasing your lot. When the Auctioneer’s hammer falls a legally binding contract is made. It is therefore important that you are aware of the buyer’s terms and conditions as well as the general terms and conditions. Selling at Auction Items are accepted until 3 weeks before the auction date. When you enter an item for Auction you will be given a receipt and a copy of our Terms and Conditions of Sale. These are contractual terms and are legally binding. The vendor’s terms and conditions set out our charges for selling items (our commission) together with details of our charges for insuring your items whilst in our possession. Where appropriate, we may photograph a lot for advertising purposes. Our charges for this are set out in the Conditions.
