Jewellery and Watches Auctioneer
We are a family firm of qualified auctioneers and valuers established in 1790. The busy salerooms are based in two locations in Battle and handle a combined total of over 20,000 lots per year in 48 sales. The Abbey Auction Galleries are located in Lower Lake, Battle in what was at one time the Senlac Cinema. The building is strikingly Art Deco in appearance and retains some of the original cinematic features including tiered seating and stage. The cinema itself closed in 1968 and was converted in to an auction rooms by the present owners.
Our Sales We hold three different categories of sales a month A monthly sale of antique and fine furniture, silver, jewellery, ceramics, metal ware and rugs. A monthly special evening picture sale of oil paintings, watercolors, prints and engravings. A monthly 1000 lot general sale of antique and modern furniture, household furnishings, ceramics, metal ware, pictures, rugs, etc. All our auction rooms are open each weekday from Monday to Friday 9:00am - 1:00pm and 2:00pm - 5:30 pm, The abbey auction rooms are open on Saturdays 9:00am - 11:00am. Items may be left for sale on any day except sale day. All our auction rooms will close for the summer break from Saturday July 30th and re-open Monday August 8th.
The salerooms are on the site of the battle of Hastings and part of the buildings were originally a debtors prison. Monthly sales of antique furniture, silver, jewellery, ceramics, metal ware, rugs, garden statuary etc are held in these rooms. Special evening sales of paintings and prints are also held here every four weeks, making these sales the only dedicated picture sales in the South East, outside London.
Selling Our sales provide the quickest and most efficient way of selling in the area. If you are thinking of selling, whether it is a single item or an entire house contents, we are thoroughly prepared and professionally experienced to help. If you can bring the items in to us we are available on any day except sale days to give free advice and valuations for sale, without obligation. If your items are too awkward to bring in, or if you would rather have a home visit, one of our qualified and experienced valuers will gladly come to you. There is also no charge for this service.
Catalogues Catalogues are available five days prior to the sale day, either from our salerooms or through the post. Catalogues may be viewed on our website five days prior to the sale and will include illustrations of selected lots. If an item of interest is not illustrated, we will gladly e-mail an image to you. Care is taken to ensure that any statement as to authorship, attribution, origin, date, material and provenance is reliable and accurate but all such statements are statements of opinion only and are not to be taken as representation of fact. Please read our conditions of sale and glossary carefully before bidding. Prospective buyers are advised to inspect lots in person.
