Coins and Notes Auctioneer

We hold auctions roughly once a month throughout the season (approx. September to June). These in the main are general stamp auctions, but we do occasionally have sales of other material. Most stamp auctions can also have smaller sections of postcards, coins, cigarette cards, medals, banknotes, and the like, and roughly quarterly we have a stronger Collectables section.

Our sales are Public Auctions, held always on a Monday evening (7.00pm start, with viewing of larger lots from 3pm and smaller lots from 5pm) at the Stewarts-Melville Club Pavilion, which is 650 metres west from our shop, on the same road (Ferry Road)
Viewing is available in our shop in the week preceding the sale, and it is also sometimes possible to get photocopies of suitable lots for a small charge. Images of some lots may be viewed in this website, and email requests for lots to be added to the available selection will be considered (although not always acted upon!).
The vast majority of lots come from third parties, for whom we are selling on commission.
To the pleasure of our customers, buyers are not faced with complicated invoices with numerous additional charges there is a simple buyers premium of 10 percent added to the price at which lots are knocked down (this includes value-added tax). There is no handling charge per lot or per invoice, nor is there any v.a.t. charged in addition to the knock-down price. What you pay is the price the hammer falls at plus 10 percent. Postal buyers are charged simply the cost of postage onto the price of their lots. There is no additional fee for the use of credit or debit cards (as long as postal buyers give their details at the time of making their bids).
Approximately every three months, one of our stamp auctions will have a much stronger Collectables section, which includes postcards, cigarette and trade cards, coins, medals, banknotes, and other categories.
Our charges for sellers are a commission of 10 percent of the sale price, plus administration fees of pound 1 per lot and pound 4.75 per vendor, all plus v.a.t. at 17.5 percent
Our full list of terms and conditions includes details of storage charges for any unsold lots which are not collected, as well as minimum charges for heavy and bulky lots, and charges for unsold lots where a reserve has not been initially agreed by us.
At most of our public auctions we also run a "Buy or Bid Sale" concurrently with the main sale. People bring things on the evening to include in the sale, and customers may either buy them outright or make bids. For the Buy or Bid sale we charge 25p per lot entry fee, plus 10 percent on any sales. Lots can be accepted in advance (with an entry fee of 25p or pound 1 per lot, depending on size). If you would like to see our next auction catalogues (or our previous one), you should be able to view or download them by clicking below. Your software will probably prompt you to confirm that you want it. It will probably give you the option of either viewing the document or downloading it. It may also warn you about "dangerous material" - all we can say is that to the best of our knowledge there is nothing dangerous in our auction catalogues (except perhaps the temptation to spend money !). The auction catalogues do not look pretty - they are designed for publishing on paper, and only minor changes have been made to them to make them internet-accessible.
