Brand new diecast metal and plastic aircraft carrier u.S.s. Hornet cv-8. Gallant ship of destiny! It was less than 6 months afer americas pacific battleship fleet was shattered in the surprise attack on pearl harbor on december 7, 1941. Armed with only 16 tons of bombs, lt. Colonel jimmy doolittle lifted into the wind from the restless deck of the uss hornet and led hos force of 16 twin-engine b-25s towards tokyo. While his mission did little damage, it helped provoke the enemy less than 4 months later, into sending a massive force against midway, only to suffer a decisive defeat in one of the historys great naval battles. The enemy lost four aircraft carriers, a heavy crusier and 258 aircraft at the hands of dive bombers from the american carriers: hornet, yorktown, and enterprise. Without aircraft, the rest of the japanese force retreated. The yorktown was lost, but america now took the offensive and the course of the war was turned in the pacific. The gallant 19,800 ton uss hornets heroic service ended in the savage battle of santa cruz on october 26, 1942. You will really love this brand new official licensed product!
